Addressing for Inbound Mail and Packages

Address is important!  The address that you give to vendors and individuals sending packages and other mail

to you at the University can make a difference in how quickly your mail arrives.

It is now mandatory to have all inbound packages to W&L addressed with a building name and room number.  They will no  longer deliver packages that do not include this information.  The packages will be returned to sender as improperly addressed.  The only exception to this policy will be if the sender has an account that can be billed an address correction fee.  In this case, the carrier will come to Mail Services and ask for the proper address, make the delivery and then bill the sender the correction fee.

As a general rule, please provide your building name and room number to anyone you expect to receive mail or packages from.  The following format will work for any carrier and will help our campus mail carrier as well as vendor delivery drivers:

Washington and Lee University

Your Name

Building Name, Room Number

204 West Washington Street

Lexington, VA 24450-2116

If you work in a building that doesn't have formal room numbers, simply provide information that may help the delivery driver to complete delivery such as floor number or other common designation.  If you have any questions concerning addressing, please contact Chris Adkins in Campus Mail Services at X8573.
